“Perhaps you’ve seen images or heard descriptions of what Jesus went through on the cross. It was the most gruesome and most tormenting death that the Roman authorities of that time could produce. It was carried out by highly skilled Roman guards who were trained to inflict the most pain over the longest period of time. It was a slow and brutal method of execution, not to mention the most publicly humiliating way to die. The pain was so bad that we even created a new word to describe it – excruciating (Latin: crux – cross, crucifixion).”
